Lojẹ Oluwaseun is an emerging female visual artist based in Lagos, Nigeria. Art has been an integral part of Lojẹ’s life from an early age. She explores her creativity by drawing inspiration from daily activities, her culture, womanhood, and social life in general. Through her art, she seeks to revive old and beautiful memories in human life, interpreting traditional culture that many might have forgotten still exists. Her art serves as a tool to heal broken memories, bring hope to victims, and amplify the voices of the unheard.
Lojẹ studied Art and Industrial Design at Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu, where she specialized in hand painting. As an artist, her work is inspired by nature, inner feelings, her past works, and the desire to measure her growth over time.
To her, art is a powerful means of communication. Without words, an art piece can tell stories and connect deeply to life. It serves as a mouthpiece for people’s voices, creating awareness around topics such as rape, cancer, and HIV. Lojẹ’s art does not only communicate but also leaves a significant impact on human life.
Her creative process begins with rough sketches, which she then transfers onto a canvas or wall surface. Using a variety of colors, she brings her vision to life. For murals, she begins by designing the concept, transferring it to the wall using faint lines, and applying colors accordingly to complete the piece.
One of her notable mural designs depicts sanitation workers cleaning the environment, emphasizing the importance of proper waste disposal. This work celebrates cleanliness as a virtue for every Lagosian and Nigerian, showcasing happiness and laughter in its imagery. The mural also seeks to engage both literate and illiterate viewers, ensuring its message is universally understood even without words. It inspires the community, highlighting the significance of teamwork and responsibility in maintaining a clean environment.
Lojẹ’s mural aims to shift perspectives, fostering positivity and hope within the community. Her work carries viewers on a healing journey, offering solace and inspiration. She believes art has the power to soothe pain, uplift spirits, and drive meaningful change.
Looking ahead, Lojẹ aspires to exhibit her works in international galleries and exhibitions, collaborating with top artists and gaining more visibility. She dreams of owning a spacious gallery and art studio where young, talented individuals can explore and express their creativity.
