At The Momentum Support Initiative (TMSI), we believe in the transformative power of knowledge, healing, and peer-driven action especially for those most affected by injustice.
We are proud to launch our new Training Manual on Sexual Violence, a comprehensive resource designed to equip sex workers, LGBTQ+ individuals, community advocates, and health providers with the tools to prevent and respond to sexual violence in marginalized communities.
What’s Inside the Manual?
This manual is not just a guide; it is a survivor-centered roadmap rooted in lived experiences, community realities, and global best practices.
Organized over a six-month workshop curriculum, the manual includes:
•Foundational education on gender, power, and consent
•Real-life case studies and role-play exercises
•Modules on legal rights, trauma-informed care, and peer support
•Strategies for building multi-sectoral response systems
•Guiding principles like confidentiality, safety, and non-discrimination
Why This Matters
Research shows that 75% of sex workers in Nigeria have experienced sexual violence including assault, rape, and coercion often at the hands of state actors and law enforcement. Yet survivors face systemic barriers such as stigma, lack of legal aid, and judgmental service providers.
This manual directly addresses these realities, focusing on prevention, survivor-led recovery, and justice that centers dignity.
It empowers communities to:
•Recognize all forms of sexual violence
•Break harmful cultural and gender norms
•Create safe spaces for healing
•Collaborate across health, legal, and psychosocial sectors
Who Is It For?
This training manual is designed for:
•Peer educators and community advocates
•Service providers supporting sex workers and LGBTQ+ persons
•Civil society organizations and grassroots groups
•Survivors who want to support other survivors.
